Croatia 2008

By Franklin | November 17, 2008

I have finally come back from my fantastic trip to Europe, which was all because of my sister. First off, I would like to thank my sister for being the one who went to Croatia to study in art under a man by the name of Jože Ciuha. I would also like to thank my father who was so kind to fund the trip, and to allow me to come along. First off, we flew to Croatia, Dubrovnik, which is a beautiful city, but staid on a small island just off of the coast. It was a small island with beautiful people, and a great environment. Unfortunately, because my trip was 8 weeks long, I am not going to be able to fit everything into this, but I will get some of the details. The first night we were there was amazing. We went to a small restaurant, and the food was excellent. It was great to be on a very quite island, with very almost every building being at least 400 years old. I also extremely enjoyed hearing the children’s laughter in the alleyways of the small town we were in on the island, and it was great to see the beautiful cats on the beach eating food that people were giving them, including me. Now, my family and I staid in a wonderful hotel that was right on the water, with people that were extremely friendly. Swimming in the Adriatic was excellent, because the water was warm, and the visibility was around 200 ft. Everyday, after breakfast, my sister would head over to Jože’s house, which was a beautifull house with a small little courtyard, that had a small little orange tree in it, and a wonderfull stone table in the center. She would go over there for hours at a time, in a small room off of the court yard that Jože gave to her, and just paint. It was quite beautifull to see her in such a happy environment, doing something she has wanted to do for, well, for ever. Anyways, while painting, Jože would watch her and instruct her, and she has improved in her art extremely. After painting, my sister and I would go to a little spot that we picked that was a bit secluded from the rest of the town, and we would go swimming. After words, we would come back, and eat a wonderfull lunch with my father. It was great to have peace and quite, and to basically just relax. It was great to spend time with my dad and my sister, especially when we went to old town Dubrovnik, and rented scooters! I sat on the back of my dads scooter, and because my sister turned 18 during the trip, she was able to have her own. About half way into the trip, my father and I left my sister on the island, because she was studing with Jože, and we drove up to Italy. Italy was not nearly as nice as Croatia, primarily because it was big, with large roads, and a lot of people. However, going to Venice was a wonderful experience. The town was beautifull, and the food was exellent. By that time, I was a little happy to get a break from the food, because the food on the island is has a lot of squid in it. We only stayed in Venice for 2 days, because we got a bit home sick for Croatia, and the island. Anyways, on the 5th week, my father went back home to the United States, but we stayed! Week had 3 weeks on this island off of Dubrovnik with just my sister and I. It was actually an interesting experience being that far away from home without my parents, which made me grow up a bit, and made me more mature. While on the island for the last 3 weeks, my sister and I made some friends, and had a great time. It was great to spend time with my sister, and to do things with her in Croatia. When it came to the end of the trip, it was sad to say goodbye to the island, and goodbye to croatia, but like Jože said, in order to come back, you must leave. This trip was trip was an incredible experience, and I am greatfull I had to opportunity to go on it.

FLIGHT LESSON #12

By Franklin | August 10, 2008

On my 12th lesson, I learned about short field take offs and landings, and then I went up and preformed them. It was a bit difficult because it was completely out of routine, but I was starting to get a hang of it. Also, my comunication seems to be getting much better, and I was actually not struggeling so much talking with the tower. Anyways, short fields were actually quite exiting, especially landing, because we had to wait for the 50 ft obstical, so I had drop at a faster rate, which was a bit exiting. Next flight, we will be working out soft field takoff and landings, so I am exited about those.
